Chevrolet for 1953 gave customers a choice of two 6 cylinders engines. They could choose the high compression 115 horsepower "Blue Flame" teamed with a Powerglide automatic transmission or the advanced 108 horsepower "Thrifty King" engine with a standard transmission.

The new Powerglide transmission allowed faster getaway and greater passing ability.

Specifications: Inline six cylinder, overhead valve, cast iron block, displacement - 235.5 cubic inch, bore and stroke 3-9/16 X 3 15/16 inches, compression ratio 7.5:1, 115 horsepower, four main bearings and hydraulic valve lifters. Carburetor: Rochester BC type one-barrel model 7007200 or Carter one barrel model 2101S. 3.55:1 Axle Ratio were used with Powerglide.
